- Shelby Township Fire Station No. 2, located at 48050 Ryan Road, is an essential public safety facility serving the southwest portion of the Township by providing essential life safety services to Township residents and other surrounding communities in Macomb and Oakland Counties. Renovating and modernizing this 50-year-old existing facility will improve service and response time to the community in situations where every second matters while better protecting firefighters with updated provisions for protection and storage of fire-contaminated equipment and gear. This project would renovate the existing station and address the current and projected needs of the department. It has been identified as a priority by Shelby Township and local stakeholders. Project Scope and Funding Need: Renovating the building to upgrade it to a recommended functional and operational level would include (but not be limited to) repairs and improvements to the following items. Building - Replace multiple interior and exterior finish materials, as well as a building addition that was estimated to be approximately 3000 sq. ft., making room for the operational improvements that a modern fire station should provide. Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing - A significant portion of the mechanical, electrical, emergency power system, and plumbing systems in the building have reached the end of their useful life and need to be replaced. There are also some significant code issues with some of the older equipment that necessitate replacement. All lighting and HCAV systems should be updated to meet current regulations and efficiencies. Site - The current site is in need of parking, sidewalk, access, and stormwater improvements. The site currently only has one approach. This approach is located along Ryan Road, approximately 2,850 feet north of Auburn Road. The access to Ryan Road is currently not signalized and presents significant issues during peak traffic volumes on Ryan Road. The site also does not currently have a stormwater collection system. Stormwater runoff from this site flows towards the Ryan Road right-of-way on the west side of the building and to the lawn areas on the east and south sides.
