6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
This is a highly innovative program designed to provide more than a temporary solution by actually addressing the root causes of homelessness and changing people's lives and the life of a community. Permanent Supportive Housing addresses the unique needs of individuals that have a history of homelessness and housing barriers. The project will use a housing first model to house tribal individuals and families in affordable, safe housing so that they may focus on other areas in their life affecting their housing stability. Meeting the basic human need of shelter assists in a person’s ability to consider and work towards becoming more stable and housed. Persons that experience disabilities of different kinds are normally the type of clients that will benefit in permanent supportive housing.
