6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
Provide supplemental capital funding to support a terminal addition at the Cherry Capital Airport, the state’s 3rd largest air carrier airport. The existing facility was designed to accommodate 350,000 passengers annually, and in 2025 TVC served 950,000 passengers. The project will better serve Northern Michigan residents, and will continue to support tourism. TVC’s has a $1 billion+ economic impact, and these dollars will further leverage economic support to the local and regional economy.
