Northville Township is requesting 750,000 to implement a Drone as a First Responder (DFR) program to enhance emergency response capabilities and improve situational awareness for public safety personnel. The program will deploy drones from strategically located automated docking stations throughout the township. When a 911 call is received, a trained operator can dispatch a drone within seconds to the incident location, providing live aerial video to dispatchers and responding police or fire units. This capability allows first responders to quickly assess conditions, identify potential threats, and determine the appropriate level of response before personnel arrive on scene. Funding for this program will support the acquisition of drone equipment, automated docking infrastructure, software integration, and training for certified operators. The system will be used to assist with a wide range of public safety incidents, including violent crimes, traffic accidents, missing persons, fires, and severe weather events. By providing real-time intelligence to responding units, the program is expected to improve officer and firefighter safety, reduce response times, and allow the city to deploy resources more efficiently while maintaining strong transparency and privacy safeguards for residents.
