6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
These funds will enable NCMC to purchase the Matthews Construction Building. This owned facility will be renovated to become the Clinic for our new Dental Hygiene Program, providing easy access for students and patients from Boyne City, Charlevoix, Traverse City, and all of Emmet County. It will train a minimum of 15 dental hygienists and host nearly 7,000 patient visits each year. The total estimated cost to launch Michigan’s newest dental hygiene program, including building purchase, renovation, and equipment acquisition, is $10,000,000. We will be the only dental hygiene program north of US-10 in the State, serving both Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula
