Junior Achievement (JA) of Michigan is a trusted education partner dedicated to preparing the next generation for lifelong success through financial literacy and career readiness programming, delivered at no cost to school systems. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Michigan seniors will be required to complete the Michigan Personal Finance High School graduation requirement for the first time. JA is uniquely positioned to support this mandate with proven curriculum, scalable infrastructure, and a statewide footprint capable of reaching every student, from the Upper Peninsula to Detroit. This appropriation would allow JA to deliver these essential resources at no cost to schools, eliminating the financial barrier and enabling districts statewide to meet graduation requirements with relevant, high-impact programming. JA equips Michigan educators with experiential learning opportunities and practical, standardsaligned instructional resources that translate directly to real world outcomes for students. JA’s impact is measurable and substantial. During the 2024-2025 school year, more than 3,100 dedicated volunteers mentored 97,000 students, contributing over 714,000 hours of instruction and guidance. As a result, 85% of participating high school students report a clear understanding of how to manage a budget, and 91% say their perspective on careers has fundamentally changed. An investment in JA is an investment in Michigan’s future workforce and economic vitality. Expanding financial literacy reduces reliance on social services, improves bankability, access to homeownership, family stability, entrepreneurship, and sustained economic growth across the state.
