6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
Funding will be used to create a Great Lakes Habitat Infrastructure Fund to leverage and match available federal funding in support of implementing the Commission’s infrastructure strategy, which will ensure effective and efficient delivery of the Commission’s programs— including sea lamprey control, science, and fishery management—in preparation to confront socioecological changes for the next 50 to 100 years. The infrastructure strategy will also significantly improve Great Lakes habitat, aquatic connectivity, and ecology, increasing their resiliency
