Funding Details

5. Requested amount of the legislatively directed spending item:
$1,200,000.00
6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
Utilizing past state granted funds, the Downriver Community Conference was able to purchase, renovate, and relocate into an updated, state-of-the-art building in Wyandotte. Unfortunately, due to cost increases and the funding pause put in place by the Michigan House of Representatives in Fall 2025, the project went over-budget by $560,000. This cost overage removed any additional projects and expansions that the DCC had originally planned for our Economic Development Department, and the original intent of the appropriation. The original goal was to expand economic development services to the remaining 15 DCC member communities now that department operations are underway for the first phase of redevelopment in the five riverfront cities. DCC plans to continue serving as a clearinghouse for available properties and sites while also expanding small business services and grant offerings, as well as initiating other new regional projects and providing capacity-building support.
