- 6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
- The requested funding would support the purchase of a new advanced life support ambulance to meet growing emergency medical service demand and maintain reliable EMS coverage for Auburn Hills and neighboring communities for which we hold mutual aid partnerships. Advanced life support care is the highest level of prehospital care that can be provided to our residents, businesses and visitors, and allows us to treat patients with severe trauma, in cardiac arrest, having trouble breathing, as well as responses to mental health emergencies. EMS responses account for approximately 75% of calls for service in the region, and ambulances are frequently committed both locally and through mutual aid, making ambulance availability essential to patient care and system readiness. A new ambulance, estimated at approximately $450,000, would enhance response reliability and improve patient treatment capabilities. This investment supports timely medical care, strengthens regional EMS capacity, and ensures that residents, commuters, and visitors receive prompt, reliable, high-quality emergency medical services when seconds matter most.
