- In partnership with buildOn, DPSCD high schools will raise their graduation rates. This is because students who participate in buildOn attend 15 more days of school annually than their peers and graduate high school at an average rate of 98%. buildOn youth are more civically engaged than their peers, they gain confidence and leadership skills and leave high school with skills that prepare than to transition into college, trade school or the workforce. Students who graduate from high school earn $500,000 more over the course of their lifetime than those who do not. Key outcomes for students are: Civic Engagement ● Responsibility: Students feel responsibility for the wellbeing of their community ● Agency: Students view themselves as and act as agents of change in their communities Personal and Community Development ● Positive Identity: a sense of purpose, positive view of personal future, self-esteem, and personal power ● Expanded Sense of Possibilities: hope for local and global communities College and Career Readiness ● Increased academic engagement: They miss 15 fewer days of school than their peers and 98% graduation rates ● Increased 21st century skills: Ready for college and the workforce Current buildOn Detroit partner schools: East English Village Preparatory Academy; Western International High School; Martin Luther King Jr Senior High School; Renaissance High School State funding will allow for expansion to the following DPSDC high schools: Cass Tech High School; Henry Ford High School; Southeastern High School; Northwestern High School.
