- The Bloomfield Township Police Department (BTPD) is requesting funds to purchase a Community Engagement Vehicle (CEV). The BTPD is a dynamic, progressive, and professional organization that envisions a safe and secure community where the rights, history, and culture of each citizen is valued and respected. A CEV can play an impactful role in this mission. The idea behind the CEV is to patrol local neighborhoods, make designated stops to meet with residents, and offer an opportunity for personal engagement. This vehicle will have entertainment capabilities, with video gaming and music, as well as offer promotional freebies. Additionally, the CEV (as designed by JHB Group in Illinois) includes resources to provide lessons, geared towards kids, about gun safety and drug awareness. In conclusion, the CEV has the potential of making sure residents get to know the officers who serve their community while learning valuable tips and public safety information. Project Benefits: - Combating potential negative connotations or fears of police officers by creating memorable positive experiences - Being an engagement tool and icebreaker that can lead to more important conversations - Providing first-hand safety lessons to community members - The BTPD is a member of the Oakland County Tactical Response Consortium, also known as OakTac. This association was established in 2009 to prepare Oakland County in the event of a major incident requiring a mutual aid response. OakTac uniformly trains and exercises using shared resources. The CEV would be shared among these agencies, making this investment beneficial to law enforcement agencies throughout Oakland County.
